Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…
God is at work, and He is powerful. I do not want to be satisfied with status quo or minor kingdom advances. This year is to be an “immeasurably more” year. I am asking God regularly to do more than I can think or imagine.
THE “NO ASSUMPTIONS” LESSON
I am finding that when I make assumptions about someone or something, I can be totally wrong. My assumptions can include the following areas:
I don’t really need to ask about how he and God are doing.
I don’t really need to ask about his marriage.
This divine appointment doesn’t have anything for me to pray.
This person is not interested in hearing about Jesus.
The list goes on and on and on…
I must remember to listen to the Holy Spirit instead of my assumptions.
The Legacy Ministry is the coaching ministry God has developed over the last few years. I have been working with fourteen Christian leaders. Once a year we try to bring everyone together for a couple days.
This time each Christian leader invited his wife to join us. We met June 8th and 9th in Indianapolis, and we had an incredible time together. I am so proud of what God is doing in these lives. This year we focused on seeking God first and allowing that to build a foundation for marriage and mission.
From my small perspective on the kingdom of God, I wouldwould like to share some observations on what I see happening in 2017. These observations are not new or startling, but seem to be occurring often enough to be a pattern.
Satan has always opposed Christian marriages, but this year he seems to have increased his attacks. Several of my Christian friends have struggled with their marriages this year. It has surprised me.
2. LACK OF JOY:
Again, there has often been a lack of joy in many Christian leaders, but this year it appears to me to be more obvious. Several Christian leaders have asked me to pray for joy for them. Joy comes from Jesus (John 15:11), and it flows through a deep, passionate relationship with Him.
3. LACK OF RECOGNITION OF SPIRITUAL WARFARE:
Satan is deceptive, which is not new. It just seems that Christian leaders are having a harder time connecting the dots in the spiritual war. Having a greater awareness of what God is doing also gives us a greater awareness of what Satan is attempting to do. We need to be very sharp in this area.
4. RIGHTNESS LEADING TO MEANNESS:
This may be more of a cultural issue, but the Church is impacted by our culture. Meanness appears to have risen to higher levels. We do not have the right to be mean just because we make the assumption that we are right. Jesus reminds us that the world will know we are His disciples by our love for one another (John 13:35). Grace and truth will still win the world to Jesus.
Overall, I believe these issues exist because of a greater disconnect from God. We all know what the solution is. We all must pursue God with a greater passion. NOW!
